WHY HAS THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT INTERVENED?

The UK Supreme Court ruled that the Scottish Government can implement a minimum “floor price” below which a single unit of alcohol (defined as 10ml of pure alcohol) cannot be sold. C&C Group plc has been a supporter of Minimum Unit Pricing since proposals were first put forward in 2011. As a brewer since 1556 and cider maker since 1935, we look forward to working with our customers and partners to support them through the implementation of Minimum Unit Pricing.

The Government is trying to achieve a reduction in alcohol consumption in Scotland and reduce the impact that alcohol misuse has on public health and services, productivity, and the economy as a whole. The wider strategic approach forms a framework for action, with Minimum Unit Pricing one part of this strategy.
